Sydney Rhodes is in the business of saving lives. Last year after donating blood for the first time she realized it was so easy, anyone could do it. That’s when she started thinking about bringing the BloodMobile to Pike Road Schools. The PRS Leo Club and her teacher, Ms. Amanda Fuller both knew this was a great cause and agreed to sponsor the event. Sydney spent time over the summer making calls and working with LifeSouth to organize the event. This is the first blood drive at Pike Road Schools and they had almost 100 students, teachers, and parents sign up to donate. There were also more than 20 students who volunteered at the event throughout the day. Life South provided students who donated a $20 gift card, and the Leo Club received a stipend for organizing the event. They plan to put the money aside to be able to help a family who needs it due to a medical emergency. They hope to never need to use it. All of the blood donated with LifeSouth stays in our community and each donation can help to save up to three lives.
